quick update

just a quick update to say i found meeting template on x-stream and transfering the relevant info from our meetings to this new template document.

zbrush model

Hey ppl

So with my extra time i started another character to get some more practice in and all that. i’m just working from mind here really i’ve not gone through the process of concept art – i’ve just dove straight in at the modelling pool.

It’s inspired by trolls of warcraft: i wanted to make a more human like character and decided on this. he’s like some big voodoo troll with a mask and below is the zbrush model i will decimate and start retopologising.

I will later add some planes to cover up his well… you know!

texture map

Hey Hey

My rabbit is now fully textured. I’ve gone with the black rabbit fur – after changing the hue/saturation of the original image this looked best. I also gave him a white fluffy tail i think works well. Overall it’s pretty simple but it works well enough and i’m pleased with how the rabbit looks on the computer. i’ll be sure to post some renders of the guy. 🙂

With the fur texture i found i used the clone stamp tool and some other little tricks to blend the fur appropriately around the character. I even used (for the first time) viewport canvas in 3ds max which worked a treat.

Here’s my finished diffuse map and the normals map taken from the high res version:

Another update here, this time regarding texturing. So last update i was unwrapping my character so i could render the uvw and take that into photoshop for painting my texture. I’ll leave this short and just point out that the image below is a full unwrap of my rabbit (well, half of my rabbit :p)

And this is a fur texture i found through google i believe from mayang.com

Hey guys,

Just a quick update – i’m still getting used to this site but i do plan on sorting out my categories 🙂 that way specific post will be easier to find.

Edit* also, i’ve got plenty more screengrabs of work in progress which i’ll be uploading shortly.

unwrap screengrab

Hi hi,

Here’s a screengrab of my unwrapping in progress. I first select areas to divide the mesh into, so the head for example will be seperated from the arm. I then create seems to cut the mesh along as though i was skinning an animal. This process is done so i can place the mesh onto a photoshop canvas and start painting the detail. there are methods for painting directly onto the 3D character which i do use later on. for now though, in the image below you can see some blue lines around parts of the mesh… well these are the seems. 🙂

Ready for unwrap

just another screengrab of my character after retopology. incase your wondering why only half is done it’s because as a shortcut i’m doing half and then using mirror modifyer – it is a symmetrical character of course 🙂

i’ve done my best with regards to the high res patches. not all can be covered! the mesh itself i’m kinda happy with though, took along time but it’s very clean and easy to manage. I think at this stage i was just finishing the optimization of the character (lowering the poly count whilst maintaining the shape of the character.
